INVEST IN OUR HISTORY’S FUTURE

Supporting the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust is supporting the preservation of America’s history. Together we save historic Civil War battlefields, allowing us to convey the stories of soldiers who fought and fell there, noting how their sacrifice impacted our shared history.

With the ramped sprawl and influx of data centers in this area of Virginia saving our Civil War battlefields has the added benefit of maintaining needed “green spaces” allowing places where we may not only learn of our  history but commune with nature and simply enjoy being outdoors.

When you give to CVBT, you preserve Civil War hallowed ground associated with the four critical battles fought at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Mine Run, and the Overland Campaign, including the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House. Through your generosity historic battlefields are preserved for the education and enjoyment of all, not only today, but for generations to come.

Whenever we purchase a threatened important historic property you, our partner, have always answered our call. But there are always the everyday expenses and need to be liquid to some extent. At times, properties come up without notice and CVBT needs to work extremely fast sometimes requiring us to write an immediate check to secure that land. These are instances we cannot wait for a grant or an appeal.

We, of course, always have the daily expenses of running the business. We are a 501c3 but still have need to cover our modest rent, and daily office and employee salaries. CVBT has always run on a shoestring and that has not changed. We have two full time employees and everyone else is a volunteer. Yet our impact on battlefield preservation is vast and on par with much larger organizations of our type

CVBT feels that anyone qualifying to join the ranks of The General’s should garner special consideration.

Please consider joining the special ranks of the CVBT General’s!

Central Virginia Battlefields Trust (CVBT) is a 501(c)(3) organization. TAX ID 54-1828344. Contributions are tax deductible. Consult your tax advisor for more information.

We remain good stewards of the monies entrusted to us by our members and friends. The Board remains all volunteer, no Board member gets paid a cent, and we are serious about putting as much of every dollar contributed to us as is humanly possible into “dirt and grass.”

No matter the amount, your donation is critical to our mission. Membership is just the first step. Every day we lose many acres of hallowed ground and every day we face another threat. CVBT needs your financial support and we need it continuously. You are the backbone that allows us to do what we do best – SAVE BATTELFIEDS.

I believe that we share a common understanding that these men would have wanted and would have expected their sacrifice and their suffering to be acknowledged, honored, and respected, and I believe too, that we share the conviction that the best way to do this is to save the very ground they sanctified, ground which in the most literal sense is sacred soil, ground whose destruction would dishonor what they did and why they did it, would dishonor both their memory and the meaning of their sacrifice.
